Everything Matters: Sequencing a Yoga Practice

  • Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center 240 Wellness Way Washington, PA, 15301 United States (map)

Do you ever experience a yoga practice that seemed to flow seamlessly, leaving you in a state of centeredness and bliss? In these classes, the postures were likely threaded together with care and attention to the art and science of sequencing.

Sequencing a yoga practice in a well-conceived, special way ensures that the maximum benefits of yoga can be experienced. The thoughtful way postures are sequenced together allows you to progress and flow in your practice with steadiness and ease, so you can do your best and feel your best every breath of the way. Meaningful sequencing can be applied to any style of yoga practice, including Gentle Yoga, Power Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Prenatal Yoga, and more!

In this workshop, Heidi Sherwin will breakdown the art and science of sequencing and offer helpful guidelines so you can start sequencing your own creative classes or home practice. We will discuss when and where to place certain postures, as well as how to transition safely between families of postures. We will also explore how everything matters within the arc of a class, from initiating the yoga experience, flowing through the practice, integrating breathing and mindfulness techniques, and rejuvenating with deep relaxation. This workshop will boost your personal practice and leave you with new skills to integrate on the teacher mat!

Knowledge of yoga and the effects of basic yoga poses recommended. Please bring a journal and pen/pencil.
