2019 = Year of the Yin Earth Pig!

Tuesday, February 5th was the first day of the Chinese New Year. The year 2019 rings in the Year of the Pig. As I read about and contemplated the “blessons” (blessings + lessons) for the Pig Year, I definitely had moments of jumping with joy, like Wilbur when Charlotte spun, “Some Pig” in her web.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Pig carries the archetype of “Life-Lover” and relates to abundance, fortune, luck, and positivity. These qualities shine beyond just the materialistic and monetary to include our relationships, health, travel, and quality of living. What’s more, this isn’t just any ol’ pig -  2019 is considered the year of the Yin Earth Pig. Breaking that down – Yin asks for more gentleness as you nurture that which makes you feel your best. Earth suggests ways to feel and be more secure and rooted with your sense of self and sense of place/belonging. So to put it all together, the Yin Earth Pig inspires us to nurture a secure sense of self to allow for abundance and joy in all spheres of life. Now, that truly is Some Pig! . 


Carrying this Pig-theme into Rumi-isms, I love the quote (whether Rumi really said it or not): “Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor.”

What an attitude to embrace!

Even in moments of darkness, are you willing to listen to and seek out the voice of JOY?

Can you stay humble and sincere when all is going your way?

Here are a couple ways I am cultivating a “Life-Lover” attitude during the Yin Earth Pig year:

Postpartum Doula Care

I love babies and I love supporting new moms. After several years as a Birth Doula, I am now adding Postpartum services to my Doula-ing offerings. As a Postpartum Doula, I help moms and families transition into “the fourth trimester” with more ease. Offering physical and emotional support, baby-care, light-housework, and meal preparation is key to my role, so families can experience more rest and joy in the first few weeks home with their new baby. The Essential Roladex

I love to research, categorize, analyze, and synthesize content. After almost 6 years of using and studying about doTerra essential oils, I am going to have some fun with all the many different essential oils. Working alphabetically, I will be spotlighting all of doTerra’s essential oils and signature blends, into a collection I’m calling the Essential Roladex. My intention is to pull together and share information about each product, so YOU have a simple and systematic way to learn key qualities of each oil and safe usage tips and recipes. All posts will be shared and archived on my Moonbow website for quick reference. Arborvitae will be the first oil added to the rolodex, and its information post will roll out next week.

Kindness is Key: An Ireland Yoga Retreat
September 29 - October 4, 2019

We will gather on the western shore of Ireland at the Cliffs of Moher Retreat center. The Co. Clare region is rich with classic Irish countryside, charming towns, and dramatic cliffs. Start and end each day with a yoga class, and then fill your afternoons with adventures or pure relaxation. Lodging and all meals are included.


I love to travel, but I won’t lie - I can get pretty anxious around all the traveling logistics. So many questions to figure out – How many outfits? Is there room for my yoga mat? Do I really need 40 different essential oils? What’s the bathroom situation? Will I need my ear plugs? Will the weather cooperate? Are there any flight delays? Can you just see all the thought-bubbles swirling in my head? While I can’t rid my mind of all travel-worries, this year I do intend to choose an attitude of gratitude for every travel opportunity, because just about every trip in 2019 is related to something I love… visiting family, summer vacation in Jackson Hole, trips to Columbus, OH for my 500-hour YTT, Wanderlust, and Ireland. During travel (or any high-stress time), I am super full of gratitude for my yogic breathing practice that’s available to me anytime, anywhere. One technique that helps soothe my nervous system and kicks in a calm, cool, and collected attitude, is called Vishama Vritti Pranayam (“Uneven Patterned Breathing Practice”). In classes, I refer to it as “2:1 Ratio Breathing” and invite the exhalation to be twice as long as the inhalation. To practice, simply focus awareness on the flow of your breath, in and out through the nose. Once you have settled into a natural, steady flow of breathing, start to transition to counting with each part of the breath. On an inhalation, count up to 4. Pause the breath for a short moment, and then with ease, slowly exhale to a count of 8. Pause with the breath out for a short moment before allowing the inhalation to begin again. It may take a few breaths for the respiratory rhythm to settle into the longer exhale, and that is perfectly normal. Continue with ratio breathing for 2 – 5 minutes. When you are ready to end, take a cleansing breath by inhaling through the nose and exhaling out the mouth. Simply notice what you notice about the quality of your experience. May the breath open the door to feeling calmer, more grounded, and connected to that which brings you joy.
