November brings something New

Greetings Moonbow Friends!

Here’s what I have been musing about lately…

November is here and it has arrived with the energy of new beginnings! I kicked off the month starting my 43rd cycle around the sun. I am excited for all the new opportunities and projects on the horizon, which include me starting the 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training program at Yoga on High in Columbus, Ohio. In 1999, I graduated from the Ohio State University, so it seems fitting that 20 years later I am returning to Buckeye land to deepen my yogic studies so I may be of better service and care to my students and mySELF.  In the sky, a new moon cycle is taking form today, and the timing is appropriate as this past weekend my 2018 Moonbow Yoga Teacher Training program came to an end. The 10 graduates are now boosted with lunar support, as they begin a new chapter in their lives and put into motion their authentic passions for teaching yoga.

Our final YTT gathering took place last weekend at the Canaan Valley Resort in beautiful Davis, WV, where we celebrated our 8 months of studying and learning together. Our retreat activities included practicing yoga (of course!), creating inspiration boards, bhakti meditation and singing, nourishing our tummies with group meals, and one of my faves - listening to each student present on a special topic of teaching yoga. The purpose of the special topic research and presentation was to challenge the YTT students to choose a specific audience, research the mind/body benefits of yoga related to the particular group, and then develop a plan of action for teaching a safe, appropriate, and well-conceived class for such students. The 10 women shared topics that resonated deeply with their own personal intention to support the well-being of others through the holistic practices of yoga. I was inspired by their themes and thoughtful integration of care. Of course, we all unanimously agreed that yoga truly is for EVERY BODY.

Check out the great topics they explored:

  • Yoga for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Yoga for High Stress/Anxiety Executives

  • Chair or Office Yoga

  • Prenatal Yoga

  • Exploring the Benefits of Yoga for Emotional Trauma Specific to Relationships

  • Yoga for Substance Abuse and Addiction

  • Yoga for Baseball and Softball Athletes

  • Yoga for Depression

  • Yoga for the Service Industry (ie: Restaurants & Retail)

  • Yoga for Chronic Pain

Congratulations to the graduating tribe of the 2018 YTT program. I am confident that these 10 amazing women will beautifully and safely carry on the torch of yoga wisdom and bring joy and wellness to their students. Thank you, Moonbow Sisters, for enlightening ME on my path!

YOGA MUSING

New moons, new beginnings, new projects can all be supported with meditation and visualization, in order to get clear on your purpose and intentions. You may like to integrate a mudra into your meditation to further focus your energy and attention. The Kubera Mudra can ignite confidence and ease as you set forth on any task at hand. The mudra can also be helpful when needing to remember essential information, such as your parking spot at the airport, lyrics to a favorite song, or the date for Heidi’s next Sunday Restorative Yoga class (it’s this Sunday, by the way – easy to remember: 11/11, 3:30pm at BlissBlissBliss).

To practice, simply press your thumb to the tip of your index and middle finger, while curling the other two fingers into the palm of the hand. You can do this with each hand, and then rest the back of your hands on your thighs as you settle into a soft, relaxed breath. Bonus: the Kubera mudra also attracts the flow of abundance and positive well-being.
